My goals for 2015:
1.
Journal our life. I will do this by updating our blog (this blog).
Measure of Success: 1 monthly post that will recap that month. This must be done before the end of the first week of the following month Additional posts can be made but the 12 monthly posts will be the measure of success.
2.
Obviously, weight loss. My goal is to lose 35lbs by june 1st. My goal will be a minimum weight loss of 7lbs per month / 2lbs per week. I will do this by increasing my activity level. I am too sedentary now. I will walk a minimum of 10 miles and do a minimum 300 push ups, 300 situps and 900 jumping jacks per week. I have not had a soda in 3 years and I will continue this throughout 2015. I will implement protion control. I will not take part in "seconds" and I will make healthier food choices. For a food guide I will follow the Makers Diet by Jordan S. Rubin.
Measure of Success: losing 30lbs, shrinking my waist size, lowering the amount of fat in my body, lessening medications that I must take regularly, more energy, more active lifestyle, sons that learn that a healthy lifestyle is a better lifestyle.
3.
Earn $1000 outside of my company paycheck. This can be done by any number of methods, It just cannot be done through my employer, our current rental properties or selling anything that we already own. Also, I must cover any expenses and net $1000
Measure of Success: $1000 profit.
4.
Read more. I want to read more and watch less TV. I would like my sons to have an interest in reading and less interest in TV and the Ipad. I will continue reading bedtime stories to my sons. I will increase the size and length of the books we read. I will include more chapter type stories to peak their interest and anticipation for the next days reading. As for myself, I will set a minimum goal of 6 books and the Gospels of the Bible.
Measurement of Success: Take the 90 Gospel Challenge offered at Bellevue. Read 1 book every two months.
5.
Begin our Homestead. This can be accomplished in many numerous ways.... plant a garden, plant an orchard, put up a fence around our property include berry bushes for natural fencing, purchase and raise chickens, rabbits, goats, pigs, mini cow.....
Measure of Success: Something growing, plant or animal, that will benefit our family this year and years to come.
6.
Build Walker and Summit's Funland!!
Measure of Success: The purchased playground is reassembled and being used by Sept 01, 2015.
7.
Renovate/ update /complete 1 room in our new house. Any room.
Measure of Success: New paint, new fixtures, curtains or blinds, correct (matching) furniture, pictures hung and accessories added.
8.
Travel! 2014 we did minimal travel. We went to Miami and Orlando, Disneyland. We went to Nashville a couple of times and Chattanooga once. Sara and Walker went to the beach for a week and I traveled to Baltimore for work. For us, this is minimal travel. We traveled less due to Sara being pregnant with Summit from February to November. This year we will get back on track. Luckily, I travel to Germany in January for work so that should start the year off right.
Measure of Success: 4- 3 day trips. Doesnt matter where or what we do. We just can not be in Memphis. 1- trip that is to somewhere we havent been to before. 4- camping trips. 1- trip that we have to fly to our destination. (side note: if we flew to yellowstone and went camping for 3 days, this would accomplish 1-3day trip, 1-trip to somewhere we havent been, 1- camping trip and 1-trip that includes flying.) Sara might think she is getting "jipped", but this would be acceptable for the measurement of success.
9.
Paddle more!!! Last year the only water my canoes and kayaks saw was RAIN! This year I must paddle more! I must be in a boat (that is paddle powered) 6 times this year. Back to back days do not count.
Measure of Success: 6 canoe/kayak or whitewater outings this year.
10.
Do Better. Do Better in everything. Be a Better Christian, Father, Husband, Son, Brother, Uncle, Friend, Employee, Colleague..... Help more, complain less.
Measurement of Success: I may or may not be able to definitively say that I was successful at this. Hopefully, those that I interact with will notice a difference and will respond accordingly. Maybe the measure of my success will be measured in their attitudes when dealing with me. Pretty neat concept. I will reevaluate this 4x this year to monitor my progress. I will continue things that are working and tweak things that arent. This might be the hadest, yet possibly the most fulfilling goal on the list.
These are my 10 goals for the year, written down for all the world to see. All of the goals on here are to improve my life and those that interact with me. Here is to a successful 2015.
David
